Activeyes Gardening Success at the RHS

Our Activeyes Gardening Group who are based at Boundary Way Allotments in Penn were recently invited to show off their gardening skills at Gardeners World Live at the NEC 13-17July.

The show patch design was based on what our gardeners are achieving at the allotments and we named it Beacon Sensations. The idea was to show how blind and visually impaired gardeners can navigate their way around the garden independently, grow their own food and fully enjoy then gardening experience. The plant list included edible plants identified by using, touch, smell, taste and bright colour.

The RHS, who judged the plots were so impressed with our gardening group’s efforts they awarded them with a Silver Gilt Medal. It was a truly fantastic effort by all involved with our Activeyes Gardening Group. Lets go for Gold next year.

If you are interested in joining our gardening group then please get in touch, we meet on Thursdays and Fridays. If you would like more information about Activeyes or want to join in any of our activities please contact Tim Jukes at the Beacon Centre on 01902 880111 or email tjukes@beacon4blind.co.uk
